Couple lounging comfortably at home

How to keep your Reeds Spring home comfortable this winter

The dipping temperatures in Reeds Spring aren’t leaving, and while it’s not hard to daydream about the warmer weather, it’s important to remember that you can continue to be just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a huge role in this, which is why it’s so important to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to mention that there are only a couple things that will provide as much to your comfort this season as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is suggested to be scheduled annually. After all, who wants to spend a cold winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the entire season?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a couple other jobs you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — many energy companies will provide an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need fixed. You could be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to escape.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to come in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you could still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is all good or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be letting cold air inside. If you find any concerns, weatherstripping is easy to replace and can take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common culprits for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they could be letting all the hot air in your home get out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as simple as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These three tips are just a place to start, but do recognize that there are other easy fixes you can complete once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy things to do on the weekend.
