Using Your Fan and Air Conditioner in Reeds Spring04/13/2016The weather is finally heating up and soon you may have to turn over to your air conditioner. Along with arranging your annual air conditioner service with the pros at All Seasons Comfort Systems Inc, there are some other things you can do to stay cozy and save money throughout the year. During the in-between season in Reeds Spring, those far too few spring days, you likely use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that using your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner may not only keep you more comfortable during the warmer days, but also save you on energy costs? In order to do that you have to be sure you’re taking advantage of ceiling fans and your air conditioning as you should be. Here’s a couple things to remember: Raise Your Thermostat This is where the cost savings can have the chance to come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your bills. Raising your thermostat by a couple degrees, in addition to utilizing your ceiling fan, shouldn’t impact your comfort level that much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lowering the duration of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner. Adjust Air Direction Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to change depending on the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to ensure the air is blowing down. You can stand underneath the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, switch the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually lower the temperature of the air, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature shown on the thermostat. Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There Treat your ceiling fan like you do lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to take in the wind chill that a fan produces you’re wasting energy by running your fan. Keep in mind, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
